"Mister Rogers" - Result #5 -  brilliant careers Read it, live it, remember it, honor him... or else.

GH - *sigh*

Just finished checking out tvguide.com, which should definitely get up off its knees and give Maurice Benard and the Head Writers a chance to zip up before they chafe from all the friction. 

I'm amazed, utterly amazed, but what I've just read.  Click here and go all the way to the bottom to My POV to get the full scoop.  I made my view on the Fan Feb episode clear in the EOS group commentary.  I know that the Sonny fans are thrilled to see even more Sonny and the Luke fans are thrilled there was so much Luke, but beyond that, I have a hard time seeing how anyone could describe what we saw as a charm.  Screw it.   I'm dead tired of talking about this insulting abortion of an episode.

You would think that after saturating the show with Sonny, Carly, Jason, Courtney and a few other supporting characters whose sole purpose is to act as props for Sonny, Carly, Jason and Courtney, as well as basing the full Fan February show on Sonny that it would be enough.  When someone asked on my message board recently if there would be a 40th anniversary show for GH, I laughingly said there, in fact, would be and it would be called "Forty Years of Sonny Corinthos."  How naive of me to say that in jest, thinking that from such a rich and powerful history of family, romance and intrigue, we might actually see Sonny, Brenda, Carly and Jason in the context of their actual place in a long history of the soap.  [insert hysterical, maniacal, defeated, bitter laughter here]  I mean, what the hell was *I* thinking??  As it turns out, [shaking my head in disbelief and wiping away a tear] GH is airing a very special, 2 hour episode of GH on March 31st.  As I understand it, the first hour will air in the AMC slot that day (so Sonny hasn't just taken over GH, now he's moving in on AMC as well - Believe it or not Mer, I typed that before you wrote something similar on the message board, LOL... great minds and all that) and the second hour will air in the regular GH site.  The thing that is so very special and absolutely unique about this commemorative episode is that for a change, (make sure you're sitting down), it will focus around Sonny and Carly!  There will be a little of Luke and Alexis thrown in as well.  The bait being thrown out there is that Sonny must choose between his wife and his desperate desire for a family.  S&C fans are worried that there might be a medical emergency regarding Carly's new pregnancy, but I think it will be something a bit different.  Perhaps as naively as I said, absolutely joking, that the 40th anniversary would be about Sonny, I also believe that surely, surely Guza and Pratt would NOT kick in the teeth of the S&C fans by giving them a baby, only to take it away again!  Call me eternally optimistic (and there is very little about this show that I can view optimistically), but I can't even imagine Bob "King Herod" Guza to AGAIN kill off Carly and Sonny's baby or force Sonny to give up yet another child.

In addition to the Sonny and Carly crisis, we will see Luke wrestle with finally letting Laura go and Alexis fretting about Baby Kristina.  ABC will also be broadcasting a full and complete  30 SECONDS of clips from the past after each episode that airs the week of the 31st!!  More details are forthcoming, we're promised.  As you know, I'm the King of Wait and See and in the past, I've been more than willing to give any projected turkey of a show the benefit of the doubt before I start bitching about it.  GH has broken me of that bad habit and now I feel fully qualified to break the Hypocritic Oath (smirk) and figure this episode is going to be yet another bomb.  In the past, I've been more than willing to bash the shows that I was waiting out once they've aired (Courtney reawakens on the same shitty show 15-20 times), but this time, I'm going in bassackwards to say that I'll smite it first, then apologize and praise it later if applicable (you negative bastards have won me over).

My prediction on the upcoming sham of a 40th anniversary blowfest?  Sux like Electrolux!!  (Blowing kisses to Ann). 

Don't get me wrong.  I think Sonny and the mob story is a great asset to the show.  I've loved PC mob since Burt Ramsey was Mr B or Mr Big or whatever it was.  I loved Joe Scully.  I loved Frank Smith.  It was awesome drama.  I love the dynamic between Sonny and Jason.  I love the history between Jason and Carly.  I enjoyed the development of the unlikely bond between Carly and Sonny.  I liked the movement from shock and betrayal to acceptance and endorsement by Jason.  What I don't like is the whole show being built around these three people while 90% of the cast is totally ignored.  I don't like Fan February and of all things, the 40th anniversary again being dedicated to them.  It's a real joke now.  No wonder one of my favorite reads, Marzi Pan, isn't even spoofing GH at General Shmospital any more.  I mean, why bother?  They're spoofing themselves!  Like I said in my Fan Feb review, there's not ANY character I want to see for the entire show, every show or for an entire special episode.

Naysay all you want, naysayers, but my rarely-heard-from source (the one who said, "Believe it or not, think Brenda and Jason") is STILL saying that Alicia Leigh Willis is not likely to be around by the end of the year.  The writers are well aware of the Sonny-Jason based opportunities that would arise from Courtney being killed mob war style. Ridicule now, my close-minded little wunderkin...  I'll accept your letters of apology later with grace because that's just how I am.
